Call - The Public Policy of Network Targeting: Theories and Perspectives

Sunday, January 24, 2021

Event Details

Please consider submitting an abstract to the special session, The Public Policy of Network Targeting: Theories and Perspectives—a session of the Networks 2021 conference, which will be held in a hybrid virtual/in-person (Washington, D.C.) format on the 6th-11th of July, 2021.

The interplay between node-level, meso-level and aggregate structure in networks presents significant challenges in the development of targeting frameworks in public policy. Classical methods present opportunities in identifying citizens to be vaccinated, securities to be traded, criminals to be investigated, students to be assisted, proteins to be modified, species to be protected—all of which often require the guidance of targeting principles.

This organized session hopes to address recent advances in the use of network methods to affect public policy in important multidisciplinary domains and within the relational perspective. We invite theoretical, methodological, and empirical papers contributing to one or more of the following topics:

  • the public policy of network interventions
  • advances in node identification
  • the use of centrality indexes to affect public policy decisions
  • information theory and networks
  • network ensembles
  • network correlations
  • targeting policy choice and decision vectors
  • the relationship between the node and the aggregate structure of networks
  • agent-based simulations in networks
  • node or meso-level network interventions and the aggregate properties of networks
  • node-level dynamical processes and aggregate properties of networks
  • connecting micro and macro levels
  • translating properties of networks to public policy choices
  • node identification in networks
  • link imputation in networks
  • dark network frameworks
  • immunization techniques in large-scale networks
  • network robustness
  • policy choice vectors in social networks
