Call for Applicants: Social ComQuant Summer School

Students from any discipline interested in learning about methods of Computational Social Science are invited to apply to the 1st Social ComQuant Summer School. The main topic will be the analysis of behavioral digital trace data. The COVID-19 pandemic will provide the context.

 

The summer school will take place online from 26-31 July 2021. Activities will be scheduled between 10 AM and 5 PM CEST. The schedule will include lectures and hands-on projects. Students will conduct small projects in which they will apply the newly learned methods under the lecturers’ supervision. Projects will be focused on the analysis of data streams from different sources.

 

Topics of the lectures will include:

Human mobility from digital traces
Social media and the spread of misinformation
Search engine query data
Online surveys through social media marketing platforms
Digital contact tracing

Social ComQuant (SCQ) is a European Commission-funded project that aims at developing computational and quantitative research methods in Turkey. This is a Twinning Project, in which two leading academic institutions in Europe, GESIS in Germany and the ISI Foundation in Italy, are twinned with Koç University in Turkey in a three-year effort to establish an infrastructure to enhance teaching and research capacity in Computational and Quantitative Social Sciences in Turkey.
